Middle Grade April '25: Hope in the Valley

$8.99

By: Mitali Perkins

Trade Paperback

304 pages
Juvenile Fiction / Social Themes / Death, Grief, Bereavement
Ages 8 to 12, Grades 3 to 7

Summary:

In her debut middle-grade novel, National Book Award Nominee Mitali Perkins explores grief, friendship, family, and growing up in a community facing a housing crisis.

Twelve-year-old Indian-American Pandita Paul doesn't like change. She's not ready to start middle school and leave the comforts of childhood behind. Most of all, Pandita doesn't want to feel like she's leaving her mother, who died a few years ago, behind. After a falling out with her best friend, Pandita is planning to spend most of her summer break reading and writing in her favorite secret space: the abandoned but majestic mansion across the street.

But then the unthinkable happens. The town announces that the old home will be bulldozed in favor of new—maybe affordable—housing. With her family on opposing sides of the issue, Pandita must find her voice—and the strength to move on—in order to give her community hope.

What is The Book Drop?

The Book Drop is a surprise monthly book subscription service powered by Bethany Beach Books, an independent bookstore in Bethany Beach, Delaware. We shipped our first mailing in 2015! We understand that sadly not everyone has a local, independent bookstore near them so our mission is to help bring the independent bookstore experience to readers.

When will I get my first book?

Our book subscriptions ship the same time every month: between the 15th-21st. Subscribe before the 11th (11:59pm EST) of the mailing month & receive your book with that round of mailings! Subscribe on or after the 12th (12:00am EST) and your first book will ship the following quarterly mailing. As soon as we start packing your subscription, we send an email with tracking information. All one-time products from our Shop ship within 2-3 business days (or on release date for pre-orders).
